Seattle Neighborhood: Central

Central is located south of Capitol Hill, extending east to Lake Washington. Its proximity to the floating bridges and downtown make it an ideal location and as such, Central has been enjoying revitalization as real estate agents, developers, and homebuyers "rediscover" the neighborhood. The neighborhood contains mostly single-family homes, but several new businesses have opened, expanding the commercial district.

Central is home to Swedish Medical Center and the Seattle Vocational Institute. The local High School, Garfield, produces a majority of Seattle's National Merit Scholars. Central supports the Pratt Fine Arts Center and the Langston Hughes Cultural Arts Center, both of which offer educational and artistic programs. The popular Central Area Community Festival & Parade is held here each July.
