Just across Lake Washington from Seattle, Kirkland is a big-city escape that invites exploration of its tree-lined boulevards, hidden lanes of boutiques, self-styled restaurants, and prominent outdoor sculptures. Panoramic views of Lake Washington, Seattle's skyline, and the Olympic Mountains also draw people to this unique locale, where 25% of the waterfront has been preserved by the city.

Kirkland is a delight for walkers, shoppers, and diners. Restaurants offer a medley of culinary experiences. The seasonal Farmers Market features fresh produce, arts and handcrafted goods. Art galleries, stylish furniture and decorative arts stores, designer consignment stores, specialty boutiques, and bridal shops provide eclectic shopping options.

Cultural enthusiasts will enjoy Kirkland's ballet, live theater, and choral performances at the Kirkland Performance Center, as well as its art galleries and dozens of public art installations. The Kirkland Arts Center offers exhibits, classes, and workshops. Heritage Hall, a stop on the walking tour of historic buildings and vintage architecture, dates to the 1880s.
